Data Set Summary Table

The summary table displays rolled up totals and weighted calculations for the “Combined” current data set (all of the projects based on your filter selections), as well as for each of the four project types that are displayed in the scatter plot legend.  As you make filter selections, this table updates when the scatter plot updates.

Gross Floor Area Weighted pEUI (kBtu/sf/yr)

A calculation that multiplies each project’s gross floor area times its pEUI value, adds them together, and then divides the set by the sum of the gross floor area for all the projects in the current data set.   At a basic level, the gross floor area is being weighted across the set of projects.  Let’s go through a simple example.

We have three projects in our active data set with the following GSF and pEUI values (Yes, you’re right it would need to be a minimum of 10 to be displayed, but it is an example)

Sample Project Set

GSF

(sf)

pEUI

(kBtu/sf/yr)

Project 1 1,000,000 142
Project 2 20,000 15
Project 3 100,000 35

Project 2 and Project 3 are strong performers and have low pEUI values, while Project 1 is quite a bit higher.

If we calculated the average pEUI across the three projects in the last column, the result is 64.

However, if we take into account the size (Gross Floor Area) for each project in the formula outlined below, the result is 130.  The pEUI value is significantly higher, because our poorest performer, Project 1, has the largest Gross Floor Area of any project.  It is “weighting” the calculation, so that the pEUI value increases and is closer to the Project 1 pEUI value.

Gross Floor Area Weighted pEUI = sum of projects (GSF * pEUI) / sum of projects (GSF)

Gross Floor Area Weighted % pEUI Reduction

Note: The same calculation approach as Gross Floor Area Weighted pEUI

A calculation that multiplies each project’s gross floor area times its % pEUI Reduction value, adds them together, and then divides the set by the sum of the gross floor area for all the projects in the current data set.

Gross Floor Area Weighted pEUI = sum of projects (GSF * % pEUI Reduction) / sum of projects (GSF)

Gross Floor Area (sf)

The sum of the square footage (sf) for all of the projects that are in the current data set.  The values displayed in the table are compressed to display either 1,000s of square feet (k) or millions of square feet (M).

No. of Projects

The total number of whole building projects included in the current data set.  The value displayed for combined will match the number of buildings shown on the counter above, and if the values for the four sub-categories below where added together they would return the same value.
