Zero Tool

Related section:  Baseline Guidance

Architecture 2030 developed the Zero Tool, so that Baseline EUIs for projects could continue to be calculated using CBECS 2003.  For consistency of reporting for the AIA 2030 Commitment program, and to reduce potential “baseline confusion”, the AIA 2030 DDx has incorporated the Zero Tool as the recommended “Define Baseline” approach for projects.

The Zero Tool replicates, as well as streamlines, the calculation procedures that were used by ENERGY STAR Target Finder.  The AIA 2030 DDx Baseline EUI calculation process using this recommended approach remains the same:

  1. Select “Define Baseline: Zero Tool”
  2. A baseline EUI value is displayed on the “Baseline” field in section 3 and was calculated using basic project information and defaults from the Zero Tool.
  3. Optional: If you’d like to provide additional detail to the Zero Tool baseline there are two approaches.
    1. Open the “Optional Inputs” dialogue, complete all input fields for each use type, and then select “Calculate”
    2. Go to the Zero Tool directly and then fill in your baseline by selecting “Other”
